FTL: Faster than Light

I'm in space!

So for once, I wasn't late to the party on a game, hence why this one hadn't been reviewed yet.  But after several people I know have finally caught up, time to write something quick. Its pretty simple.

If you like science fiction/space wars whatsoever, buy this game.

FTL has you start in a garage with a ship and three crew members.  You can choose a difficulty and then begin your trek across space.  By jumping from beacon to beacon, you are running from an opposing army, more well armed than you.  You must manage fuel, weaponry, shields, pilot the ship, monitor oxygen levels, and a host of other things to survive. During your explorations, you have to try to arm yourself to take on the Armada leading gunship at the end of the game.

Good luck getting there.

Between pirates, invasion crews, diseases, failed rescue attempts, nebulas, asteroid belts, holes blown in your ship, and destroyed oxygen generators, everything has to happen extremely in your favor for you to make it out alive (I never have).  With the random nature of the game, sometimes you load up and last till the final gunship, othertimes, you die in the first sector (I believe there are 7-8 per playthrough).  No 2 sectors are the same and may be "friendly" "hostile" or just like flying blind (nebulas).  There is no way to get good at this game.

Yet you'll be blowing up over and over, renaming your crew and setting out again.

I'm not sure how companies have been doing it lately, but often some of the harder games have become the most addictive and most fun to play.  Its not about winning/beating it or collecting all the things.  Its simply about "This is the game. Deal with it."  The game should be exceedingly frustrating, but its not. Its deeper than first glance and it ends up being a hell of a lot of fun.  This pretty much sums up everyone I know's experience with the game.

Yup. Hammer, meet nail on the head.

Seriously. Buy this.  Enjoy the craziness.  Or blow up your enemies.  The choice is yours.
