John Dies at the End: Book Review
John Dies at the End is one of those rare kind of books that a reader comes across very few times in ones' mortal span.
It's just so profane, nonsensical, stupid, blasphemous, and flat out bizarre..... and fuck me if I don't love the fucking fuck out of jesuss' nipples out of it.
I'm not even going to try to explain the plot to you, it won't make sense, and it will just spoil the shit out of the book. I will say however that as you keep reading, and delving into this batshit crazy universe, that the world becomes so weird that it starts making its own sense. Ex. ''Well of course blasting 80's hair metal will kill these apocalyptic shit deamons." Ex "It was just so obvious that to kill those murderous angels we needed to poison them with semen!"
The book revolves around the friendship of David Wong (the author) and John, to self described retards who, due to a run in with a sentient drug called Soy Sauce, are usually tasked with the salvation of mankind (in this and other dimensions). The Sauce allows them to deconstruct the universe, see into the future, have hyper senses, and cross time and dimension. The permanent after effects however unveils the truth of the universe; that hell isn't just a place, it exists with every shadow you see out of the corner of your eye.
David and Johns' friendship is absolutely what makes the book fantastic. They are utterly believable as characters, and you really fear for their safety as the shit goes down around them. In fact their relationship reminds me of the one between me and my own friends. Meaning they're a couple of jackasses constantly making dick jokes already struggling to survive just in the regular world, shoved into a scenario they are completely unprepared to face. So yeah the world is boned, but they're going to take fuckers with em.
So I highly suggest picking up this cult classic by author David Wong pretty much anywhere you can get books.
